Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. The Metrolinx Intern Program is designed to offer new graduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working on projects that guide us forward through our collaborative, inclusive work environment. Upon successful completion of the program, there is the opportunity to be offered a permanent placement.

Our Social and Branded Content team oversees social strategy and content creation across the GO, UP, and PRESTO social channels to engage our audience and build brand vibrancy.

The Social and Branded Content Intern will have an opportunity to work across the GO, UP and PRESTO brands. You will monitor social platforms for opportunities to reshare user-generated content and get hands on experience creating social plans and content. You will have the opportunity to lend your critical analysis skills to conduct research on best practices, measure and report on content performance, assist with meeting planning and perform duties such as gathering and organizing information to support team projects, reports, and meetings.

What will I be doing?
  • Support Brand, Digital, and Product Marketing in the development and implementation of social media plans, calendars, and content for GO Transit, UP Express, and PRESTO, including campaigns and always-on content
  • Monitor social platforms for user-generated content, managing an associated spreadsheet and coordinating and documenting permissions from users to reshare from brand channels.
  • Monitor social platforms for opportunities to engage with key content trends or trending sounds
  • Planning and executing social content, including appearing and speaking on camera as needed
  • Writing, photography, graphic, and video content creation.
  • Planning and executing live content creation by attending and capturing key moments and events throughout the year as needed, including pop-ups and sponsored events
  • Conducting best practice and audience and/or social platform research and analysis to help drive Metrolinx’s social media efforts
  • Analyzing and reporting on social content performance weekly, monthly, and annually to identify key trends and opportunities to optimize content to maintain organic social performance and channel health
  • Supporting Social and Branded Content’s thought leadership by assisting those who arrange and host learning sessions and/or create informative materials. Research, coordinate, edit, and distribute regular Social and Branded Content key learnings and trends newsletter or document
  • Coordinate reporting and tracking initiatives to support Social and Branded Content.
  • Prepare, collate and distribute meeting materials and assist with facilitating meetings.
  • Provide administrative support to a variety of areas, including maintaining key document libraries, Wikis, and capturing information from meetings and presentations, minute taking and distribution.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in Marketing, Media, Journalism, or related field within the last 2 years.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and best practices, with experience executing social media content for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and/or TikTok – especially Instagram and TikTok.
  • Willingness to appear on camera in TikToks and other content.
  • Complete proficiency in the English language is essential, including online language usage.
  • Competence in content creation, photography/videography
  • Familiarity and experience working with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
  • Political acuity to anticipate and avoid common issues brands face on social media
  • Modern communication techniques and software applications (e.g. desktop publishing, word processing, Power Point, etc.)
  • Previous experience working within a business environment is preferred
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Must be prepared to occasionally work outside of regular working hours to support content creation or execution during key events, e.g. partnership events, brand activations, etc. (beyond 5pm during the work week and weekends as required, etc.).
  • You must be available in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area for a June 5th, 2023 start date .
