Oh Captain, my Captain! Our Jet Boat Captains have the most important role at Whirlpool Jet. They operate our triple-turbo diesel vessels through our whitewater playground - the Class V rapids of the Niagara Gorge. A commitment to safety, professionalism (and taking guests on the ride of their life!) is essential for this position. If you want to be the driver behind 1500 horsepower & 31,000 lbs of thrust, then this is the job for you. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred but all training and certifications are provided in-house for successful candidates.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the safety of passengers and crew at all times, including all aspects of passenger control
• Daily mechanical maintenance and duties of assigned vessels
• Logging of all trips and proper completion of all vessel maintenance checks
• Ensure trip leaders are giving proper briefings as per TL manual (Captain must be knowledgeable and able to provide all briefings and orientations)
• Safely load and unload guests onto boats; physical assistance is required
• Ensure proper fueling of vessels prior to each departure
• Assist with daily cleaning of vessels, scrub boats, seats, semi-dry bags, docks and guest gear
• Follow all company procedures in trip format and operations of vessels
• Report any mechanical or operational deficiencies to General Manager
• Conduct training of trip leaders and assist in training of Captains as required

Ideal Candidate would have or acquire (Whirlpool will pay for all required certifications):

• Master Limited under 60 tons certification/SVMO certification (preferred, can be acquired)
• Restricted Radio Operators License (preferred, can be acquired)
• Post-secondary education at an accredited maritime college or other institution preferred
• Current (within previous two (2) years) Transport Canada approved medical preferred
• Customer service experience is preferred
• Knowledge of shipboard maintenance software and Microsoft office applications considered an asset
• All ages welcome, 18+

** The ability to work in both Canada and the USA considered an asset

Most of our positions are seasonal, beginning in late April-May and finishing around Halloween. But our staff love it so much, they come back every summer!

Passengers experience a thrilling and educational one-hour guided tour, where they can take in the awe-inspiring scenery of the Niagara Gorge, feel the rush of the Class 5 Devil’s Hole rapids and marvel at the power of the Niagara Whirlpool. The tour company’s fleet of custom-built jet boats depart from locations on the Canadian and American sides of the Niagara River, including Queenston, ON and Lewiston, NY.
