Junior Accountant Job at SPUD

SPUD.ca is looking for a Junior Accountant to join our hybrid Finance team. This is a permanent role which will be remote-first, and is open to candidates based anywhere in Canada.


As a junior accountant, you will be responsible for book-keeping and performing day to day accounting functions, for our growing business by supporting our Finance Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for general accounting, financial reporting, and operational data analysis activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and intercompany entries.
  • Key contributor to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting process including journal entries and preparation of financial statements and coordination of review/audit.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis and budget to actual analysis reports.
  • Set up and maintain internal controls to support accuracy for financial information for audit purposes.
  • Set up Wire and EFT payments to vendors.
  • Work with A/P & A/R staff to ensure timely and accurate posting of transactions.
  • Collaborate with other areas & members of the finance department as needed.
  • Contribute to preparation of technical accounting assessment memorandums for presentation to external auditors and the Audit Committee.
  • Liaise with external auditors.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Related post secondary education (diploma or bachelor's in accounting)
  • Enrolled or planning to enroll in CPA
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Able to stay organized, remain professional and maintain high levels of productivity under pressure
  • Clear, direct and timely communicator
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to work overtime as required
