The PEI Department of Fisheries and Communities aims to encourage the development of an innovative, diverse and inclusive workforce which enables the organization to realize its goals. The main purpose of the Junior Policy Analyst Intern position is to provide policy research-related support to the Aquaculture Division and Marine Fisheries and Seafood Services Division’s current projects and initiatives. The incumbent will provide analytical support to the two Divisions.

Duties will include:

  • Collecting and synthesizing data in writing to support the development of various types of briefing material, reports and presentations;
  • Performing basic evident-based research on policy and technical issues related to the Division’s projects and initiatives;
  • Writing draft policy reports (e.g., jurisdictional scan, survey, focus group, etc.) based on well-defined and credible evidence;
  • Researching and developing annotated bibliographies and reference material for the purposes of making policy-related decisions;
  • Completing systematic analysis of peer-reviewed literature;
  • Attending meetings and preparing minutes (e.g., Departmental meetings, interdepartmental meetings, FPT meetings, industry sessions, etc.);
  • Assisting with the collection of qualitative, quantitative and other basic information for the purposes of program and policy evaluations, qualitative information from Managers and program leads for the purposes of developing programs;
  • Providing support to the Policy Coordinator on the development of legislation for an Aquaculture Act, and subsequent regulations and policies;
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree (for example, but not limited to: Political Studies, Sciences, History, Communication, Anthropology or Economics). A Master's degree is an asset.
  • Must have graduated from university within the last 2 years.
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered;
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Some experience leading projects or teams.
  • Some experience in identifying, retrieving, evaluating and synthesizing evidence from peer-reviewed and grey literature on a broad range of topics.
  • Must have strong skills to present information using traditional and/or digital media in a clear, concise and accurate manner through effective written, oral and visual communication.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills with the ability to foster collaboration and partnerships.
  • Must be able to edit documents for grammatical and other errors.
  • The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism considered an asset.
  • An undergraduate degree in the humanities or social sciences is an asset.
  • Completion of university courses specific to public policy and/or public administration considered an asset.
  • Project management certification and/or coursework considered an asset.
  • Additional relevant education or knowledge of marine biology, fisheries and/or aquaculture considered an asset.

Salary: $26.06-$31.05 per hour
