  • Duration: Fall 2023 + Winter 2024 (September 2023 - April 2024; 8 months)
  • Location: Victoria (our office is situated on the Selkirk Waterfront on the Gorge Inlet. Enjoy stunning views of downtown Victoria and the Olympic mountains and take advantage of the nearby Galloping Goose Regional Trail for walking and biking).
  • Salary: $1,819.12 bi-weekly (for students working towards a diploma or bachelor's degree) or $2,136.88 (for students working towards a post-graduate degree)
  • Grant: As part of our inVESTED scholarship program, you may be eligible for reimbursement up to a maximum of $1,000 per four-month work term to cover the cost of co-op work term tuition fees.

  • Team: The newly formed Hybrid Infrastructure team is responsible for both traditional on-premises infrastructure (compute, storage, network in data centres) as well as the future Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in Azure supporting our strategic direction.

The Job Responsibilities

This IT Operations role will offer work experience with all aspects of IT Operations that will be 100% transferrable to other industries. Students will use traditional tools as well as new cloud-based tools specifically in the Azure space as part of this role.

  • Incident, Change, Problem Management
  • MS Teams Meeting Room device setup, maintenance, and support
  • Tier-3 Support of Microsoft 365 applications like Teams, Defender, Endpoint Manager, Azure AD, Exchange
  • Active Directory
  • Device Management (images, drivers, operating systems)
  • Testing and Quality Control of endpoints (laptops/desktops)
  • Wiring Closet patching and maintenance
  • Wireless Access Point support
  • Monitoring and addressing Application Health for M365 application
  • Technology testing (s/w, h/w, OS, f/w)
  • Technology research
  • Miscellaneous Project participation (i.e., SharePoint Online implementation)
  • Operational Support that involves data analysis with excel, pivot tables, and trends

Learning Outcomes

The successful candidate can expect to gain experience in the following areas:

  • Experience with ITIL concepts like Incident, Problem, and Change Management
  • Use of Microsoft 365 and Azure Administration Portals
  • Hands-on experience with physical cabling, wireless access points, and switches
  • Exposure to Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  • Administration & Operations experience with Microsoft applications like Endpoint Manager, Autotune, Defender ATP, Always on VPN, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online

Requirements

This opportunity is available to 3rd or 4th year Computer Science, Health Information Science, and Software/Computer Engineering students and graduate level students studying Computer Engineering/Science or related fields. You will bring your enthusiasm to contribute, willingness to learn new skills and tools, strong sense of ownership, and your disciplined approach to solving and managing problems.

Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas would be an asset:

  • Windows 10 Operating System (OS)
  • Comfortable with managing the settings of a laptop
  • Understanding how to patch OS and update device drivers
  • Building and executing test scripts
  • Use of Service Desk software
  • Writing & reviewing technical documentation
