Reporting to the Medical Radiation Tech, Catheterization Lab Leader, (and under the direction of Cardiologists), performs established diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in the cardiac labs for the majority of time. Within established policies, procedures, and standards, performs supply and equipment inventory duties for the Catheterization Lab area.

Qualifications / Skills and Education: Education
Graduation from a recognized school of medical imaging, plus two (2) years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) Certified.

Duties and Responsibilities: Performs diagnostic and interventional angiography procedures in the cardiac and vascular catheterization labs, cardiac procedure room and electrophysiology labs under the direction of Cardiologists.

Performs daily start-up and quality control procedures of the cardiac and vascular imaging equipment including the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) by following established procedures prior to the patient’s arrival.

Prepares the work area for each procedure by setting up accessory equipment such as contrast media injector, OCT, IVUS, FFR, and ICE, in conjunction with the Registered Nurse. Orientates equipment users to ensure proper operating and safety procedures.

Communicates with patients, physicians and staff on topics such as explaining procedures, consent, allergies, etc.

Inputs, updates and annotates patient and procedural data by entering patient ID, supplies utilized, image sequence and procedures performed into the digital imaging system.

Ensures digital images and sequences acquired during procedures are properly transferred by checking the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS).

Provides instruction regarding procedures, equipment and techniques to staff trainees, student technologists and other staff as required.

Participates in the quality control of, and troubleshoots and reports any equipment malfunctions to Catheterization Laboratory Supervisor or service engineer.

Within established policies, procedures and standards, and in consideration of slated procedures, performs supply and equipment inventory duties for the Catheterization Lab area such as:

maintaining an accurate and up to date supply and equipment inventory system for the area;
placing and receiving order requests for necessary equipment and supplies;
inputting relevant data into the computerized system;
running daily reports of stock and re-order requirements (and other relevant lists);
ensuring appriopriate and adequate stock is in place for the slated procedures;
monitoring usage and re-order points and making recommendations to the designated supervisor to establish or amend re-order points;
identifying outdated or expired products for removal;
liaising with physicians, logistics, stores, finance and venfors to facilitate timely responses and optimal pricing or consignment arrangements;
receiving approval from appropriate designate on special orders or orders exceeding pre-determined limits as required;
contacting other departments and/or hospitals to obtain additional equipment and supplies as required to meet specialized, urgent, or back-ordered equipment or supply needs;
responding to and documenting similar requests from other departments and/or hospitals, ensuring that baseline equipment or supply needs for PHC are not compromised in the process. As necessary, sourcing alternate products or vendors to accommodate emergent orders;
notifying Purchasing of anomalies in ordering as required;
arranging for equipment or supply pick up or delivery to appropriate location, liaising with porter/ward aides for assistance as required;
consulting and communicating with physicians regarding requests for special requirements/products and arranging purchase within established policies, procedures and standards.
providing feedback and input to the designated supervisor to assist with future supply/equipment planning.

Participates in staff meetings and assists with the updating of procedure manuals.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
