The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre’s laboratory is a 24/7 operation that provides essential laboratory services which offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment that enables you to work to your full-scope of practice. The successful candidate will perform a variety of routine and specialized Anatomical Pathology and Microbiology procedures. Duties include: Handling and preparing tissue for routine or specialized processing, embedding and performing microtomy, performing routine and specialized staining procedures, performing frozen section procedures, performing grossing procedures, performing routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting of various laboratory instruments and quality control activities. Responsible for microbiology laboratory-based tasks, which includes sample preparation, testing, measuring, recording, and analyzing results in human biological clinical sciences. The successful candidate will be a quality oriented, organized individual offering creative and innovative solutions that positively contribute to a supportive and collaborative work environment. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Relocation assistance may be available with a Return to Service Agreement.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills both written and oral are required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in Anatomic Pathology and Microbiology is an asset.
