Labourer- Wastewater Job at New Tecumseth

Under the direction of the Wastewater Collection Senior Operator, this position will carry out general labourer duties and heavy equipment operation for Wastewater operations. Assists with the Towns flushing and wet well cleaning programs. Assists other departments such as PRC, Roads and Water as required.

Responsibilities:
Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, tandem trucks, vacuum trucks etc. within Wastewater operations.

Clean and flush sewer mains.

Repair and inspect manholes using proper confined space entry techniques. Repair/replace manholes’ frames/risers and benching. Repair/replace sewer and water service connections

Act as traffic controller during works on municipal roads.

Using vacuum truck equipment, vacuums wet wells, septage channels and scum pits.

Perform general maintenance when required such as painting, cleaning and small repairs.

Maintain property including grass cutting and snow removal.

Assist with the operational maintenance work such as pulling pumps, etc.

Assist with the repair of sewer/water mains as required.

Carry out sewer service maintenance including blockage removal and camera inspections using appropriate equipment.

Qualifications:
Requires secondary school diploma.

Must have Class D with Z endorsement licence, and ability to submit a clean driver’s abstract upon hire.

Requires Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification, or the ability to obtain within 1 month upon hire.

Ability to pass Respirator Fit Test.

Requires 1-2 years of experience working with heavy equipment, preferably in a Public Works environment.

Must have the ability to operate heavy equipment in an efficient and safe manner. Courses in heavy equipment operation would be an asset.

Must have the ability to judge when to advise supervisor of problems with equipment.

Wage Rate: $22.89 - $27.61 (2022 rates), plus 4% vacation pay

Hours: 40 hours per week, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday - Friday

Dates: May 1 – October 27
