Rocky View Schools invites applications for a full-time Learning Specialist (K-12) in the Learning Services Department at the Education Centre in Airdrie commencing immediately to June 30, 2027. This position will be under the guidance of the Director of Indigenous Learning.

Please note: This position is also open to those teachers holding a Continuing Contract in RVS.

RVS seeks an experienced individual who possesses strong understanding and practices in the inclusion of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and Ways of Knowing and Being. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated proven methods of supporting students who are self-identified as Indigenous using a strengths-based approach and inclusive model. This individual will utilize sound foundational knowledge, current research, engagement with community members, and authentic understanding of the experience, history, protocols, and cultures of diverse Indigenous Peoples to support staff in creating accessible, engaging, culturally responsive, and authentic learning opportunities for all students. The ideal candidate will have recent classroom experience, and embrace working collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities for this position include:
Supporting leaders and teachers in implementing effective and sustainable decolonized and indigenized practices

Supporting teachers with the implementation of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into daily practice

Working collaboratively to support building division-wide capacity in greater understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being and teaching historical, social, economic, and political implications of colonization of Indigenous Peoples and residential schools

Working collaboratively with a variety of community and educational stakeholders, including community Elders and Knowledge Keepers

Supporting schools to build and sustain relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, families, and community members

Supporting schools with culturally relevant programming to support the success and well-being of Indigenous students

Supporting the learning experiences of K-12 students by identifying, selecting, and creating high quality, culturally responsive resources which accurately reflect and demonstrate the strength, diversity, and worldviews of Indigenous Peoples

Developing and facilitating professional learning which helps teachers and leaders to develop and apply foundational knowledge about Indigenous Peoples for the benefit of all students

Planning and leading professional learning sessions as required including working extensively in schools through small group professional learning, in-class demonstration and modeling, coaching and mentoring

Supporting in the design and initiation of division-wide projects, workshops, events, and/or celebrations (e.g., National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, National Indigenous Peoples’ Day, culture camps, pow-wows) which develop innovative and creative programming to meet the individual needs of multiple schools

The successful can didate must possess, or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate and provide Human Resources with an original of their Teacher Qualifications Service (TQS) document.
