The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Machinist. This position works with students, technologists, technicians, and researchers to provide skilled support in the areas of design, milling, lathing, and welding.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Graduate from a recognize institute of advanced technology or CNC Machinist Certificate required.
  • Five years of experience required.
  • Experience operating Computer Numerically Control (CNC) lathes and mills.
  • CAD and CAM skills required.
  • Experience using standard machine shop tools including drill press, grinders, saws, arc welders and other small hand tools.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to show initiative and sound judgement in organizing work within the area of responsibility and be able to communicate effectively with students and other users of the lab required.
  • Initiative and ability to work and communicate effectively with other staff and students required.
  • Good manual dexterity required.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions required.
  • Ability to adapt techniques required.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices for CNC lathes and mills.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Must be physically capable of performing duties as assigned, which can include long periods of standing and moderate to heavy lifting.
