The Position

Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, the Key User – Technical Controller contributes to the success and profitability of SAAM Towage by supporting the Technical Team with the implementation, training and utilization of the Maintenance Planning System, while assisting with the administration of maintenance and repair plans to ensure proper and efficient usability of tools for asset management across maintenance, dry docking and purchasing.

Some of the Job functions for this role will be:

  • Executes the data entry of new vessels in NSE by structuring the hierarchy of equipment, preventive maintenance (standard jobs) and by gathering technical documentation to structure the required implementation related to the new acquired assets, following SAAM Corporate’s recommendations and best practices, while contributing with recommendations according to the local process.
  • Prepares and provides NSE training to new employees or whenever reinforcement is needed to guarantee the right data result with the correct input producing the correct outcome to keep track of equipment maintenance, replacement parts and other requests throughout the company.
  • Maintains, prepares, and organizes the technical information of the Canadian fleet such as manuals, drawings, service history and major OH, to control technical information and produce the most updated information available for interdepartmental and departmental needs.
  • Monitors and prepares preventive maintenance jobs in NSE for the entire Canadian fleet using Microsoft Excel load sheets to assist the technical department improving the assets preventive maintenance according to the data provided.
  • Monitors all input data in NSE such as work orders, service requests, requisitions, request for quotation, purchase order in order, drydock documents, etc. to guarantee the correct information has been entered and the software is being used to provide the best data tool for the technical department
  • Analyzes monthly budgets in co-operation with the Technical Superintendents & Fleet Manager to provide data driven suggestions about expenses and liabilities
  • Checks and monitors the program performance to provide timely information to IT about bugs and/or glitches in NSE and assist in the prompt resolution of those and avoid down time.
  • Registers help tickets in the Helpdesk platform by requesting the creation of new materials or suppliers to ensure each department’s needs, purchases, PO’s etc. are timely met.
  • Assists on maintaining and analyzing the KPI’s of preventive maintenance to assist the technical department with the KPI’s provided by the Qlik platform
  • Provides administration of vessel certificates, including expiry date, renewals etc., maintaining up to date copies onboard vessels and at the office to ensure on time notification is done at appropriate government and class society bodies get requests, guaranteeing fleet compliance at all times.
  • Audits the monthly fluid state of the Canadian fleet through the analysis and review of oil & fuel sample and results (hardcopy and digital) to contribute with sounding information in order to promote the use of data driven information for interdepartmental and departmental decision making.
  • Reacts to change productively to undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned and looking after the best interest of the company. The list of functional duties is not exhaustive.

Aims to comply with due dates, following procedure, company and industry standards in order to achieve operational goals.

And possess the following minimum requirements:

  • Marine Engineer or equivalent Marine technical co-ordination experience.
  • Intermediate to advance lever of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent knowledge of Plan Maintenance systems. Nautical System Enterprise (NSE) preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of Marine systems - Plant machinery/equipment
  • Very good knowledge of Canadian and International Marine & Transportation regulatory systems.
  • Must be able to travel within Canada by air.
  • Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.
  • Must have a valid BC Driver's License
