The Role:
We are looking for someone with mechanical aptitude who is interested in a Maintenance Technician role in a fast moving food processing plant. The ideal candidate would have hands on experience in dealing with electrical, mechanical, welding, power engineering or even general maintenance on a wide variety of equipment. Journeyman tickets are preferred and strongly valued. The goal of the successful candidate would be to provide the plant with a high level of maintenance expertise, that ensures departmental downtime, meet Company objectives efficiently and to carry out equipment and building repairs as required, while adhering to quality, safety and legislative guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs all tasks as per recommended job methods, procedures, etc., particularly on the repair installation of production machines, bearings, seals and their alignment.
  • Maintenance of RTU filters, belts and general maintenance.
  • Carries out preventive maintenance tasks to Production & common areas
  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment by inspection and use of appropriate preventative maintenance tools.
  • Use hand and power tools to build, buggies, carts, airlines, castors and rails.
  • Replace solenoids, motors, pumps and gearboxes as necessary.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure all safeguarding is in place and functional, including safety sensors, limit switches and photo-eyes.
  • Electrical knowledge to replace lamps, ballasts and familiarity with thermostats and sensors.
  • Plans and organizes all aspects of work and job assignments, in an efficient and productive way.
  • Maintains work areas in clean and safe conditions, removing all waste on completion of job, or earlier if necessary.
  • Reports all defects, errors in production, and machines which may affect the workplace to the Maintenance Manager
  • Work closely with contractors and oversees activities as required. Provides resource support as required.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years related experience.
  • Experience in a food processing plant.
  • Experience with food (poultry)- proper care and handling.
  • Millwright ticket is an advantage.
  • High school diploma (grade 12) required.
  • Be success-driven and have a “can do” attitude.
  • Be able to work independently, as well as being a strong team player.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have a good safety record.
  • Flexible and adaptable in ever-changing environments, including overtime, weekend work and on-call/support as required
