Position Summary:

Carleton Hatchery is currently looking for a maintenance worker with a mechanical aptitude who is interested in a general maintenance role with a fast-moving food processing plant.

You would have formal or informal experience (backyard mechanic) in dealing with electrical, mechanical, welding, power engineering or even general maintenance on a wide variety of equipment.
Journeyman tickets are not an absolute requirement but rather a desire to learn and potentially join into an apprenticeship program are strongly valued.

The goal of the successful candidate would be to assist the Maintenance Technicians in providing the plant with a high level of maintenance expertise that ensures departmental downtime meets Company objectives efficiently to carry out equipment and building repairs as required, while adhering to quality, safety and legislative guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Complies with the company safety, federal, state and local regulations, plus environmental requirements in performing the following but not limited to;
  • Performs all tasks as per recommended job methods, procedures, etc., particularly on the repair installation of production machines, bearings, seals and their alignment.
  • Maintenance of RTU filters, belts and general maintenance.
  • Carries out preventive maintenance tasks to Production & common areas
  • Diagnose complex and common faults of mechanical equipment by inspection and using appropriate tools of preventive maintenance.
  • Through familiarity, knowledge and uses of power and hand tools and equipment in a skillful, efficient manner, maintaining them in clean operating condition. Uses hand and power tools to build, buggies, carts, airlines, castors and rails.
  • Replacement of solenoids, motors, pumps and gearboxes.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure all safeguarding is in place and functional, including safety sensors, limit switches and photo-eyes.
  • Electrical knowledge to replace lamps, ballasts and familiarity with thermostats and sensors.

Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain prompt and courteous response to production team requests within the guidelines set forth by Carleton Hatchery Lethbridge.
  • Must be available to work Overtime, Weekend, and On-Call/Support as required
  • Available for Shift Work as required
  • A Grade 12 education is mandatory.
  • Have 1 to 3 years related experience
  • Experience in a Food Processing Plant
  • Experience with Live Animals and proper care and handling
  • Mechanical trade certification is an asset
  • Be success-driven and have a “can do” attitude
  • Be able to work independently, as well as being a strong team player
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have a good safety record
  • Flexible and adaptable in ever-changing environments
