The role of the Department of Economic Development and Transportation (EDT) is to respond to economic development opportunities in Nunavut, so that Nunavummiut participate fully in the benefits of economic growth. The Manager, as a member of the regional Community Operations Management Team is accountable for delivering effective, efficient, fair and consistent regional program delivery in the region to ensure that Nunavut Communities have access to the resources, support, information and training to make informed decisions to implement their community’s economic development initiatives.

The Manger- Community Economic Development will support the growth of specific economic sectors, including mining, fishing, and sealing, tourism, and cultural industries. Helping to build capacity in our communities including business development. Maintaining and expanding a safe, secure, and efficient transportation system, including airports, harbors, and roads. The Manager will align relevant action plans to provide a strategic focus with respect to the Department’s economic development programming. Supporting programs and budgets of Government of Nunavut departments, crown corporation, Nunavut Land Claims Agreement agencies, federal departments, crown corporations and partnering agencies when entering joint economic ventures.

Ensuring any participation in employee recruitment respects the division’s Inuit Employment Plan initiatives. Along with the assisting the Director in developing the division’s capital and operational budgets contributing to the overall budget. Using the due diligence process as a signing authority designate, monitoring division expenditures, authorizing payments and analyzing used of financial resources for various activities. Submitting timely financial reports including Financial Management Board submissions.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Degree from a University in Community Administration, Economic Development, Commerce, Public or Business Administration or a related field. Minimum 4 years of related work experience is required with at least 2 years supervisory experience. Proficiency in two (2) or more of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.

Equivalencies consisting of a combination of Education, experience and training maybe considered.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered asse
