Mechanical Engineering Technologist

Simplicity Air Ltd has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineering Technologist. The Mechanical Engineering Technologist is responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles. They will analyze and design the structural and mechanical components and assemblies that support our GRIP and Patriot products as well as the mechanical assemblies that house our HVAC products. The Mechanical Engineering team collaborates with Controls Systems Engineering on overall system design and integration and supports production.

Job Duties

  • Mechanical design and drafting of sheet metal parts and assemblies for HVAC products.
  • Mechanical design and drafting of structural and mechanical components and assemblies for power transmission and mounting on vehicles.
  • All mechanical design done using Solidworks.
  • Specification and drafting of hoses for air conditioning refrigerant, engine coolant and other fluids.
  • Product testing and documentation.
  • Creation and maintenance of work instructions for production builds.
  • Root cause analysis and resolution for supplier and internal quality issues using the NCR and SCAR tools.
  • Follow all relevant processes and procedures.
  • Log project time in Zo-Ho so it may be applied/billed accurately.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Production, Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, IT, etc.) to ensure project success.
  • Ensure that designs are safe, efficient, effective, and able to be manufactured.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

  • College degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct work experience with production systems, regulations, guidelines, and associated standards.
  • Direct knowledge of manufacturing methodologies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and other 3-D imaging software is essential.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into machines to ensure that the organization is meeting its high-quality goals and objectives.
  • Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance.
  • Excellent grasp of diverse, fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and relationships.
  • Advanced mathematical skills, such as calculus and differential equations.
  • Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies, and control plans.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm with a half hour unpaid lunch.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $50,000.00 per year
