Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Mental Health Therapist - Indigenous Mental Health Liaison will provide addiction and mental health assessment, triage and referral, as well as crisis intervention, de-escalation and short term brief solution focused therapy up to six sessions as well as community prevention and promotion work. Another area of focus of this position is the provision of specialized treatment and prevention/education services addressing alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and gambling concerns for the aboriginal population for Wetaskiwin and surrounding areas. This position will require the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and the flexibility to adjust to the demands of ongoing program development. The Indigenous Mental Health Liaison works as part of the team to provide mental health, addiction and risk assessments to the adults and youth referred. The Indigenous Mental Health Liaison will be required to liaise with other staff in the hospital as well as have significant knowledge with both facility and community resources. in order to effectively assess and refer clients appropriately. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection required. The liaison will also be involved in case conferences, staff meetings, and professional development activities. Liaison with community partners and other related duties as required.

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of masters degree in Psychology; or masters degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or masters or bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or masters degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college

Additional Required Qualifications:

Membership in professional association/college as per The Health Professions Act. Social Worker must be authorized to do psychosocial interventions. Cultural competency in First Nations populations. Knowledge of First nation’s history, trauma, traditions and healing practices. Knowledge of Aboriginal traditional wellness practices that support addiction and mental health prevention, recovery and health promotion. Mental Health assessment and crisis response, addiction counseling and brief therapy. 5 years’ experience in mental health/addictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Course completion specific to Indigenous Studies.
