Alamos Gold’s Island Gold is one of Canada’s highest grade and lowest cost gold mines. This underground operation is located just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa in Northern Ontario. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality, and Alamos is now investing in a major expansion project which is expected to transform Island into one of the largest and most profitable mines in Canada with an 18-year mine life. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Compile Mill Daily Production Reports and manage record keeping of operator reports
  • Refinery operations including washing electrowinning cells and pouring gold
  • Routine maintenance and calibration of plant and laboratory equipment including pH meters, Marcy scales, conveyor belt scales, and laboratory balances
  • Month-end production sampling, metal inventory and associated production reports
  • Coordinate processing and reporting of secondary production materials
  • Actively support mill productivity and the reliability by performing and assisting in shutdown inspections, including ball mill liners, cyclones, and vibrating screens
  • Ensure availability of reagents and consumables by performing weekly reagents, consumables and grinding media inventory, reagent ordering and compiling reagent consumption reports
  • Performing and assisting in sampling, sample preparation, dispatch, and sample analysis of ore stockpiles, plant streams, tailings, water, and reagents
  • Preparing and ordering reagents required for process operations and control activities, such as silver nitrate, sulphuric acid, pH calibration buffers and indicators
  • Performing laboratory tests to produce reliable data, for process parameters such as: particle size distribution; carbon activity tests; flocculant settling tests, titrations etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervision

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Basic knowledge of Metallurgical Lab functions and mineral plant unit operations
  • Knowledge of arithmetic for use in reporting test results and data analysis.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • 2-year metallurgical technician certificate or equivalent Mill operations experience

Working Conditions:

  • 7ON-7OFF rotation schedule including holidays and weekends.
  • Working in a mineral processing plant environment.
  • Frequent interaction and collaboration with the milling team to ensure work is performed safely and productively
  • The work frequently involves time pressures and deadlines

Physical requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent walking up and down stairs and ladders
  • Frequent walking on rough, uneven, inclined, or wet ground.
