Mobile Crisis Worker (Registered Health Care Professional)

11 month Full-Time Position (Municipality of Sioux Lookout and remote communities in the Northern sub-region)


Summary
This member of the Canadian Mental Health Association works alongside the Ontario Provincial Police to respond to individuals in a mental health crisis. This member is assigned to the Ontario Provincial Police detachment and provides mobile crisis response to individuals of all ages in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and remote communicates in the Northern sub-region. The Mobile Crisis Worker completes a comprehensive mental health assessment and links individuals to appropriate mental health services. The Mobile Crisis Worker also provides follow-up to individuals within 24 hours of the initial crisis intervention. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch.


Qualifications
BSW, MSW, registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or College of Paramedics Registration or eligible for registration with a regulatory College
Expertise in mental health/illness and mental health difficulties and treatment modalities Assessment/ Evaluation skills
Working knowledge of community resources and agencies Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to manage conflict and crisis situations
Ability to work shift work and be flexible with hours Provide on call support as required
Computer literacy and recording skills Cultural Competence for diverse populations Valid Driver’s License
Criminal Records Check
Certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain same


Duties
Responsible for:
  • Adherence to all policies of the CMHA Kenora Branch
  • Assurance of confidentiality of all client, personnel and organizational records and information
  • Maintenance of client files and data files including updating of client information consistent with policies and procedures of the CMHA Kenora Branch
  • Maintenance of professional qualifications and registration
  • Provide crisis intervention and Advocacy
  • Collaborate with emergency services to stabilize crisis issues of individuals
  • Provide short-term crisis support services in order to facilitate a successful transition to longer- term supports and services
  • Provide short term follow-up and support to individuals following a crisis assessment
  • Provide resources and supports to family members of individuals in crisis
  • Provide education and support to key stakeholders for the purpose of enhancing crisis services within Kenora
  • Assessment of client needs and mental status and the development of appropriate recovery plans
  • Facilitate and monitor crisis recovery plans
  • Assist police officer(s) by providing guidance and expertise in determining apprehension criteria through de-escalation techniques
  • Assist at hospital if any apprehension under the mental health act occurs of an individual
  • Participation in ongoing training and education and application of new skills to practice
  • Coordinate shift management as per established policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and implementation of trauma informed care
  • Participate in staff meetings and recovery plan meetings
  • Participate on specific Committees or task or work groups as assigned by the Executive Director(e.g. Rapid Intervention Services Table)
  • Provide a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Health and Safety Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHIMIS and Safe Work Procedures; including but not limited to Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plans
  • Ensure client safety and client safety activities are emphasized throughout orientation of new staff members
  • Support an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of mental health services
  • Participation in administrative and office functions
  • Responsible for self-care
  • Other duties as directed
