We have an exciting opportunity for a lead specialist with a focus on naval structures, including ships and submarines, to join our Structures & Risk team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.


Take your skills to the next level working with a team of professionals on the leading edge of naval structural analysis, keeping vessels operating safely and efficiently using the latest tools and knowledge available. Your duties will include:

  • Provide consultancy services at a lead specialist level in areas relating to the structural analysis of naval vessels (surface ships and submarines).
  • Act in lead specialist capacity, both delivering and leading projects in structural analysis of naval vessels, including development of new services/approaches and training of more junior engineers.
  • Lead small- and large-scale proposal development. Develop relationships with key naval stakeholders to understand current and future client challenges.
  • Provide clear and concise communication with clients and internal/external stakeholders
  • Manage projects in the areas of structural analysis and response, delivering agreed upon project scope of work on time and on budget.
  • Take responsibility for delivering on personal performance goals and targets, operating without supervision.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development while maintaining a very high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness. Take ownership for own development, seeking opportunities for self-development.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.

Key skill requirements:

  • Senior-level structural engineering expertise with a focus on naval vessels: 15+ years’ experience.
  • Experience with working for/with the Canadian Department of National Defense
  • Demonstrated experience in leading projects related to structural engineering and survivability analyses. Familiarity with naval shock codes.
  • Experience in the use of finite element codes and other numerical modelling tools for the analysis of structures, including pressure vessels.
  • Experience in the maritime industry
  • Familiarity with the Lloyd’s Register Classification Rules, IMO codes, SOLAS, Transport Canada, CSA, IEC and ISO and other relevant standards used in the marine and offshore industries
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Programming experience considered a strong asset

You will have:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language. Proficiency in another language such as French or Spanish will be considered an asset.
  • Immediately eligibility for a Personal Security Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD).
  • Ability to travel nationally/internationally, including meeting entry requirements for client sites (mandatory full COVID-19 vaccination).
  • An active/valid driver’s license
