We are looking for a Network & Communications Engineer responsible for providing ongoing operations and maintenance support for a stable network and communications infrastructure which allows the transmission of information (data and voice) across the business in support of safety and production systems for both surface and underground.

Reporting to the Superintendent IST Operations and Project Support, this role is integral in the complex support, safe and efficient delivery of Networks and Site Communications plans. Located at the Lac de Gras Mine site, you will be working on a two weeks on / two weeks off rotation. Working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering service & support to the ongoing operations at Diavik, consisting of but not limited to Cisco switches, routers, WLC’s, Call Managers, Firewalls
  • Managing and supporting all computer, storage and backup infrastructure consisting of both physical and virtual servers
  • Facilitating the access to the data / tools
  • Suggest, prioritize, and identify improvements around support of operational environments
  • Train the team members, when necessary
  • Managing, supporting, and maintaining new and existing communication infrastructure, fiber, leaky feeder, ethernet, wireless, ULF (ultra low frequency) and RF (Radio Frequency) technologies
  • Optimizing and supporting radio trunking systems, that includes RF over fiber technology.
  • Installing, managing, and supporting equipment UPS’s
  • Executing all field operations in a safe manner

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in network and systems administration in a medium-to-large complex site
  • Advance knowledge in Enterprise based Cisco Networking technologies; Routing & Switching, Wireless, CUCM and Security
  • Advance knowledge in VMware vSphere, Dell Hosting and Dell/Netapp Storage technologies, and support
  • Advance knowledge in Industrial Cisco wireless environments
  • Highly skilled in troubleshooting and following through complex issues
  • Highly effective organizational, time management and analytical skills
  • Solid knowledge in change and release practices for infrastructure delivery and support
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and key internal stakeholders

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
