Work at CBC/Radio-Canada
At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.
Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.
Your role
CBC Halifax is looking for a Video Editor to join our visual storytelling team. You are a critical part of the powerful journalistic and production team that produces programs on our streaming, digital, social and TV platforms. You are a creative thinker and visual storyteller who brings original ideas and innovative treatments to all platforms and has demonstrated skills editing content at a high level with a digital and TV mindset.
Working under the general direction of News leadership, you will operate independently, or as part of the content teams to research, gather, edit, package, and distribute or deliver media for CBC’s platforms including CBC GEM, social media, digital, radio, and television. You are just as comfortable working to the tight deadlines of our live daily programs as you are with our longer format programs and deadlines. You have experience with confidential material and visuals that are often graphic and disturbing in nature. With the creative use of video, still images, graphics and other visual storytelling techniques, the newsroom editor will be instrumental in supporting and implementing a comprehensive video engagement strategy.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with experience and knowledge of visual broadcast editing. The Editor will have an understanding of how audiences consume content across platforms and a desire to experiment with new forms of storytelling. Your editing skills will help reshape the role of video in the digital age, exploring ways to add context around major stories of the day, and extending our television brand to digital and social platforms.
This is a permanent, Monday - Friday, 1PM - 945PM shift. You will work closely with our journalists and producers assigned to our supper-hour and late night television news, and to our digital and social media platforms.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Strong editing skills
  • Experience in a multi-platform news environment.
  • Creative visual storytelling experience
  • Highly developed video production skills, including strong ability to produce a variety of program formats and experience in field production.
  • Experience and proven ability to package video content in compelling and innovative ways.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is directed appropriately.
  • Knowledge of user-generated content and social media techniques and policies.
  • Commitment to including all equity-seeking groups in our storytelling
  • Demonstrates the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • In depth knowledge of video and audio standards, file formats and codecs
  • Familiarity with creation of motion graphics, advanced colour correction and multi-layered video effects considered an asset.
  • Graduation from a community college in television or equivalent industry experience;
  • Knowledge of DTV, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro or similar editing systems.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
