Description: Our Client in Ottawa is looking for an Optics Engineer to join their R&D team. The client is at the forefront of telecoms, specializing in the research and production of various Optical & Photonic equipment for performance measurement an evaluation.

The ideal candidate will act as the Technical Point of Contact on the R&D team, working closely with engineers from other disciplines, and partnering with New Product Introduction Teams working from Concept to Production on novel technologies.

Responsibilities:

Level of ownership will depend upon seniority and area of expertise. Growth into the role is expected. Activities to include:

• Interact with product line management in initial program or product definition – this may be as part of a brainstorming multi-function team.
• Co-ordinate front end research programs – prototypes, evaluation, reports
• As technical lead for new product development programs:
• Develop or support the development of requirements, specifications, and test plan.
• Create and manage the detailed R&D schedule, provide input to resourcing plan
• Interact with the Project Manager to support gate reviews, regular progress updates, and issue escalations
• Participate in all technical reviews on owned programs. Possibly lead reviews in area of expertise.

Research in Physics, Photonics etc.

Experience with Requirements and Testing Procedures

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Degree in Physics, Eng. Physics. Advanced degrees in the same preferred. Degrees in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering will be considered if combined with experience in optics
• Proven Experience in product or systems development.
• 5+ years of experience in new product development
• Experience working with multi-discipline teams in a collaborative environment
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
