Title and Authority/Reporting

Title: Outside Sales Representative

Authority/Reporting: This role reports to the Branch Manager. This role has no managerial authority and no direct reports.

General Description of the Role

The Outside Sales Representative is a key contributor in meeting and/or exceeding established sales goals and targets. They will conduct sales out in the field via face-to-face interactions with both potential and existing customers. The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for offering the best possible customer experience as well as providing hands-on explanations of any new or updated products when necessary. Leading by example is key when dealing with the administrative part of the job and when needed makes this position a jack of all trades who is adaptable, positive, analytical and detail oriented.

Role Accountabilities

The Outside Sales Representative will:

o Sell and make product recommendations

o Meet customer needs while obtaining orders from existing or potential sales outlets

o Ensure that the customer is satisfied and adequately taken care of while making a purchase

o Establish new accounts for their employer

o Be creative with solutions when issues or concerns arise from our customers or business partners

o Develop and write proposals for our products in commercial and residential applications

o Stay informed about product and service information updates

o Be the communications conduit between administrative colleagues, inside sales representatives
customers, architects, engineers, contractors', and business owners

o Champion change while providing input to any policy, process, and procedural updates

o Respect the confidentiality of their customers

Specific Tasks

The Outside Sales Representative will:

o Develop new business leads

o Follow up on leads and conduct research to identify potential prospects

o Ensure all communication with new or existing customers is logged into the database

o Prepare and analyze data to build a sales pipeline

o Offer professional, effective, and efficient solutions for customer inquiries and concerns

o Provide guidance on price competitiveness

o Participate in trade shows, training, or associated product meetings when necessary

o Answer phone calls and emails in a professional manner

o Build rapport with customers

o Collect customer information for future follow-ups

o Upsell services and make product recommendations

o Close sales

o Identify sales opportunities

o Stay informed about product and service information updates

o Maintain and update existing customer files

o Provide outstanding customer service

o Perform other duties as required

Skills and Experience/Qualifications

Required skills – you are:

o Able to sell and is comfortable selling

o Familiar with writing proposals and drafting quotes

o Detail oriented and produce accurate work

o Able to deal with multiple interruptions, multitask, and can redirect and manage time as necessary

o A strong communicator in English, both verbal and written

o Punctual and reliable

o Able to work effectively and productively without close supervision

o Proficient with computers generally and MS Office suite in particular

o Able to present and showcase the product in various options, pros and cons, comparisons to competition

o Customer service oriented

o Able to resolve conflict through effective resolution

o Knowledgeable about the products you are selling

o Professional with fellow employees, customers, and supplier representatives

o Someone who works well independently and as part of a team

o Adaptable, flexible, and open to change

Desirable Skills – you are:

o Computer literate, including MS Office word, excel, along with database applications

o Willing to receive on-the-job training

o Able to build an excellent rapport with customers

o Someone with the ability to handle customer complaints in a professional and calm manner

o Physically able to safely lift 30-50 pounds

o Motivated and hardworking

Required Experience and Qualifications – you have:

o A high school diploma or GED certificate

o 3-5 years of experience in sales and customer service

o A working knowledge of Excel & Microsoft word

Desirable Experience/qualifications – you may have:

o Worked in a similar role before

o An ability to grasp new software and work arounds

Other

o This position requires frequent travel with remote and onsite work.

o This position requires a valid drivers’ license
