Reporting to the Manager of Student Retention and Academic Success, the Student Integration Officer plays a vital role in a student's academic success and is an important position in the strategic enrolment management process. Working within an integrated team made up of Student Success Specialists, Faculty, Program Coordinators, Chairs and Academic Advisors, the Student Integration Officer plays a key role in the development and implementation of academic success strategies and support in a learner’s journey.
Working closely with the Academic Onboarding Coordinator and eLearning and Digital Design Coordinator the incumbent is one of the key members of the Intercept team at Algonquin College. The incumbent supports strategic enrollment management by successfully implementing core student retention initiatives, identifying process improvements and recommends new initiatives and strategies. The incumbent will make recommendations based on analysis of student withdrawal data. The incumbent acts as a first line support for at-risk students, provides students with impartial guidance to support their academic success, works closely with Student Success Specialists, Academic Advisors and Program Coordinators to ensure students have timely access to answers within their program area and through service areas of the College.
A major focus of this position is supporting learners who are at-risk of withdrawing from the college. As part of their duties, the incumbent will meet with at-risk students considering withdrawing from their program to support an informed decision process that may include referrals and check-ins with various program supports and services. The incumbent will work with learners at different points in their journey to support their persistence. Contact points with students may take place prior to a student starting their program, through to graduation. The incumbent will be proactively reaching out to learners deemed “at-risk” through various student engagement initiatives (Entering Student Survey, Intercept, Reach Back Support etc.). Their work will integrate with the work of other members of a student’s academic circle of care (Student Success Specialists, Faculty, Program Coordinators, Chairs and Academic Advisors) by delivering enhancement programming to learners in accordance with a student retention calendar.
Required Qualifications:
  • Three (3) year diploma/degree in Social Sciences, Adult Learning, Education or related fields;
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ of experience working with learners with demonstrated ability to improve academic success;
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ of experience in strategic development of academic success initiatives;
  • Experience advising students would be considered an asset;
  • Experience analysing and problem solving situations would be considered an asset;
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills;
  • Strong attention to detail, with ability to manage expectations, set boundaries, prioritize tasks, and time manage.
