At Papillon Family Health we offer a range of services to aid the growth and development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We understand that each child is unique so our team collaborates with families to create the most effective therapy program for each individual child. We offer three ways that families can use our services: in-centre, at home or virtually. Parents can either choose one way or adopt a blended approach to suit their needs.

Since 2009 our centre has been a hub for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families, providing support and empowering children with the tools and help they need. We have built a comfortable and positive environment focused on developing and affirming children’s abilities and establishing pride for accomplishments. We believe in offering realistic environments where children can learn the skills they need to prepare for success in the future.

Our interdisciplinary treatment model ensures that from the initial assessment and throughout the learning journey, the family and specialists are working together with the child towards shared goals and objectives. We offer a range of services including Behavioural Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Mental Health, and Respite Services.

We at Papillon Family Health, are currently seeking a Pediatric Occupational Therapist to join our growing team, managing the growth at our Mississauga and Brampton locations. The incumbent will be directly involved in shaping the new Pediatric Occupational Therapy learning experience for our clients and families.

By being a part of the creation and design of a new learning centre, the Pediatric Occupational Therapist will manage choosing new equipment, creating a gym, leading the team environment and more!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Senior Therapist, the incumbent must demonstrate compassion, patience, and understanding when treating clients.

  • Facilitates development and rehabilitation of clients with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy.
  • Adjust communication patterns to the age and level of understanding of the child. This may sometimes include no-verbal means of communication like sign language
  • Meets the client’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results and determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
  • Conducting physical needs and psychological assessments of clients.
  • Development of treatment plans, assessing home environments, and developing physical rehabilitation programs.
  • Advising on adaptive equipment to assist clients with daily activities.
  • Help clients develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities.
  • Providing ongoing support and education to parents/guardians of clients.
  • Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating clients’ progress and recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing clients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment and recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
  • Maintaining professional knowledge and technical progress in order to provide clients with the best treatment programs available.
  • Evaluation client condition regarding physical and basic mental health.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy or equivalent;
  • Minimum one-year experience working with children with exceptionalities; Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, and/or other developmental disabilities.
  • Minimum one-year experience as an occupational therapist.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Possess up-to-date knowledge of treatment practices and physical therapy programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • An up-to-date Vulnerable Sectors Screening
  • First Aid and CPR training
  • Understand augmentative communication systems
  • Liability Insurance
  • Ability to follow written programming
  • Excellent communication skills, outstanding organizational capacity, strong attention to details.
  • Valid driver's license.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
