Location: Either: Central Zone South, Location Negotiable OR Rural Central Alberta, Location Negotiable. This benefits eligible casual rural pharmacist (0.8FTE) position supports in-person pharmacist services and operations at rural hospitals throughout Central Zone South. Central Zone South includes rural hospitals as north as Ponoka Health and Care Center (PHCC) and as south as Drumheller Hospital. Like the rural communities these facilities are set in, all disciplines work closely together to care for patients in busy acute cares, emergency departments as well as continuing care residences in these hospitals. Our pharmacists round regularly and are actively involved in the care of patients who need it the most. The purpose of this position is to ensure patients most in need at our rural hospitals will be seen by a pharmacist in-person. As such, mobility, flexibility, adaptability, and availability are expectations to be able to provide and support these in-person pharmacist services wherever the operational need is. Our rural hospital pharmacists make a difference in the lives of patients every day. In Central Zone South we provide a supportive, multidisciplinary environment to enable our pharmacists to focus their time on assessing our patients and actively managing their pharmacotherapy. Job Description: As a benefits eligible casual rural pharmacist (0.8FTE), you will support in-person pharmacist services and operations throughout Central Zone South by: Travelling to rural sites to provide in-person pharmacist services when operationally needed (the pharmacist is away or to support workload as the second pharmacist). Provide remote pharmacist services to sites throughout Central Zone South from the position’s home/ base site (the home/ base site for this is negotiable).

Description:

As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability, flexibility and adaptability to travel to and provide in-person pharmacist services to rural sites within Central Zone South as operationally needed. Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) from the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP). Successful candidates not having APA will be expected to obtain it within 6 months of commencing in this position. Pharmacy related experience in a hospital setting or in direct patient care providing comprehensive medication management services. Recent experience as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Experience with computerized medication order entry, and different drug distribution systems such as unit dose.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated self-directed learning and continuing education. Demonstrated good time management including ability to switch priorities and multitask. Demonstrated excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, good organizational and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated; able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment. Rural hospital experience an asset.
