JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:



  • Perform distribution feeder analysis and develop mid-term (1-3 year) and long term (10 year)
plans to ensure adequate feeder capacity, appropriate feeder reliability performance, optimized
overall system performance and system loss management, and measured and prudent risk and
capital investment balance.
  • Develops solutions to meet distribution automation requirements.
  • Conducts and analyzes technical and economic planning studies to identify Distribution system
and Distribution feeder requirements to reliably and efficiently supply load.
  • Develops plans to optimize distribution system and distribution feeder performance taking into
consideration load growth and customer requirements, operational needs, corporate objectives,
and long term strategic goals.
  • Identifies and initiates system improvement and expansion requirements and secures financial
support for implementation; coordinates with other departments’ capital plan execution.
  • Develops responses to regulatory related matters.
  • Manages projects of some complexity including planning and managing resources and
coordinating work to ensure that commitments are met.
  • Represents the planning and engineering function in the public consultation process.
  • May chair meetings to address engineering problems.
  • May assign work and give instructions, advice and technical guidance to other engineers and
technical support staff.
  • Reviews work of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required
results, and adherence to accepted engineering practice.
  • Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues
in order to determine relative priorities and assess the impact of work on others and resolve
issues of concern.
  • Works under general direction, with work assigned in terms of broadly defined objectives and
budget limitations.
  • Advice of manager is sought in critical areas which impact the work of others.

  • Completed work is accepted as accurate, with overall plans and recommendations reviewed for
feasibility, soundness of judgment and achievement of objectives.
Qualifications:

  • Electrical engineering degree or equivalent (preferably power systems) recognized by Canadian
universities. Demonstrated ongoing development such as self-study, attendance at technical and
administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers
and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC).
  • Eight (8)+ years’ experience in a relevant engineering field.
  • Fully developed technical knowledge in electric utility engineering and power system studies is
preferred.
  • Knowledge of various BC Hydro systems, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of project management, including cost control and project administration.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable
independence and understand and appreciate implications of costs, operability and safety.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate various complex technical studies and data of
considerable complexity and diversity, define and develop criteria and cost estimates for complex
plant modifications and/or other major projects, and develop significantly complex computer
models and programs for forecasting or scheduling purposes.
  • Demonstrated technical writing and interpersonal skills; excellent communication, organizational
and interpersonal skills.

  • To fully perform the duties of this position, travel to various areas of the province may be
required.
  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver's License: In good
standing.

considered for a lower level position.

Flexible work model role definitions
===========================
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
