We're looking for a Policy & Planning Assistant to join the office of City Councillor Jaye Robinson, Ward 15 – Don Valley West.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Policy & Planning Assistant will provide research and policy support to the Councillor on city-wide and local issues.

Key Qualifications

· Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and attention to detail;

· Strong organizational and time management skills;

· Experience managing diverse projects and responsibilities concurrently;

· Resourcefulness, dynamism and problem-solving; and,

· The ability to work independently without direction and as part of a team.

The ideal candidate should also be web-savvy, up-to-date on current events, and a strategic thinker.

Education: Minimum requirement – Bachelor's degree. A Postgraduate degree in a related field is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Monitor policy matters that impact the Councillor and constituency, and identify possible policy solutions and opportunities;

· Assist the Chief of Staff in preparing the Councillor for City Council, Board, and Committee meetings;

· Review and summarize relevant reports and documents for the Councillor;

· Manage stakeholder relations on policy and planning matters;

· Track policy matters of interest and alert members of the team as required;

· Prepare speeches and notes for local and city-wide events;

· Ensure the Councillor is prepared with the required briefing material for events and meetings;

· Coordinate and prepare the Councillor for community consultation meetings on planning files;

· Work directly with residents to strategize, identify issues, and answer questions about the planning process;

· Organize and lead meetings with residents, City staff, external stakeholders, and/or the Councillor as necessary;

· Act as a front-line staff in managing day-to-day inquiries from residents;

· Correspond with relevant City staff to ensure resident concerns are addressed in a timely manner;

· Ensure all correspondence with constituents and City staff is recorded and logged in the internal database.

The position is full-time and starts in January 2023.

Hybrid work. All team members are expected to work 1-2 days in-office per week and have the option to work from home on the remaining days. Office is located in City Hall, 100 Queen Street West.

Salary: $44,724.87-$50,000.00 per year
