Current Rate of Pay: Min $22.78- Max $ 23.37

Position Summary:

Within the context of a patient and family centered care, the Porter transports patients of all ages with a wide variety and complexity of illness and injury, including deceased patients, between various areas within the hospital. Duties include transporting/escorting patients, along with their families, to and from required areas using stretchers, wheelchairs and beds and assisting nursing and technical staff with the transferring of patients, as required. The Porter maintains cleaning supplies for stretcher cleaning areas, and cleans equipment and morgue and other areas as required. The Porter picks up and delivers equipment, supplies, specimens, blood products and other items as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience working in a hospital environment and with following universal precautions preferred
  • Ability to complete Best Practices for Environmental Cleaning eLearning Course within first 30 days
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills along with the ability to make independent decisions and establish priorities
  • Physically capable of maneuvering and pushing, pulling carts, stretchers and wheelchairs with patients, and assisting with patient transfers
  • Excellent hand/eye coordination skills to navigate a busy hospital environment
  • Ability to work with frequent walking, bending, lifting, gripping, reaching, pulling and pushing
  • Ability to work with cleaning products and to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
  • Basic computer skills (used for email, incident reporting etc.)
