Position Scope:

The Production Supervisor is responsible to create success supervises employees across all departments and complies with all safety, quality, quantity, and housekeeping standards. Specifically monitors production lines for quality and maintaining machine efficiencies. Responsible for directing work crews in order to meet daily production schedules. The supervisor must work with QA and Process Engineering to maximize process conditions insuring consistent product.

Schedule: The Production Supervisor will work on a weekly rotating schedule – Week 1: Monday – Thursday 6am-4pm, Week 2: Monday – Thursday 6pm-4am, Week 3: Tuesday – Friday 8:30am-6pm.

Responsibilities:

People

  • Interacts in a professional and helpful manner with internal and external customers and team members demonstrating the business’ values (i.e. Customer Focus, Meaningful Contribution, Integrity, Continuous Improvement and Innovation, and Teamwork) achieving the business’ purpose to create success and it’s annual business goals.
  • Is an active team player in identifying improvement opportunities and / or solving departmental or company issues by communicating openly, listening to others, and focusing on the identification of the root cause of an issue and taking steps to prevent future reoccurrence.
  • Always acts with the safety of all team members at the forefront, correcting unsafe operations or environments immediately and / or bringing them to the attention of the Production Manager or Plant Manager.
  • Treats all team members with respect . . . “If in doubt, check it out” . . . always clarifies situations with those involved, dealing with disagreements in a mature and trusting manner while focusing on what’s best for the business.
  • Directly supervises Team Leaders / Team Members in all areas of production including coaching, training, team building, problem solving and disciplinary action ensuring adherence to the company’s Policies and Procedures, the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights Code and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Completes annual performance reviews by regularly maintaining records of team member performance during the review period and seeking the input of the Team Leaders. Identifies through annual performance reviews and regular observation, team member training needs, arranging, and scheduling these activities and following up to ensure completion and performance improvement.
  • Supports the company’s objective of continuously improving team member capabilities by utilizing all unscheduled opportunities (i.e. downtime, work shortages) for development / cross-training / communication purposes.

Process

  • Responsible for enforcing all company rules with regard to safety and housekeeping standards and driving the safety culture with a behavior-based orientation.
  • Monitoring and reporting performance KPI’s
  • Responsible for maintaining production yields and efficiencies, quality, and quantity standards on the shift.
  • Maintaining and enhancing team members’ knowledge of all critical to quality and critical to processes elements
  • Monitor for trends, and report any process or equipment problems, documenting all maintenance breakdowns.
  • Responsible for checking all shop floor reporting needs, to insure it is completed timely and accurately.
  • Administer: training, development, and performance evaluations consistent with company policies
  • Work schedule will be flexible based on the Plant’s: weekly, monthly, and annual operating plan.
  • Adhere to all practices, policies, and procedures according to ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Supervises area production ensuring product quality standards are achieved while maximizing the utilization of resources.
  • Supervises the completion of the area weekly production schedule working with Team Leaders and team members to solve quality issues, equipment problems and team member coverage issues as they develop.
  • Completes end-of-shift log, ensures effective communication from shift to shift is being achieved.
  • Ensures team members undertake appropriate end-of-run maintenance / cleaning activities to minimize product contamination and increase next run quality.
  • Completes administrative reporting as required – i.e. performance tracking, payroll records, employee log, work/vacation schedules etc.
  • Has read and understands the departmental standard work instructions.
  • Able to react to change productively and participate in other projects or essential tasks as required or assigned

Performance

  • Performs all duties with minimal errors, within required timeframes and in a manner consistent with established Work Instructions, ISO Procedures and Company Policies
  • In cooperation with other team members, supports the timely achievement of fiscal year goals and KPI’s.
  • Displays co-operation, flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment.
  • Ensures company Policies and Procedures, the Human Rights Code and the OHSA are constantly adhered to by all team members advising the Plant Manager with appropriate urgency of situations as they occur.
  • Advises Production Manager and the Plant Manager of circumstances and/or decisions taken that impact (both positively and negatively) the completion of the weekly production schedule.
  • Works closely with other Departments in reviewing requirements for any trials and / or quality concerns to avoid any potential negative impact to the customer or the business.
  • Never breaches information confidentiality guidelines

Authorities and Impact:

  • Serve notice (i.e., caution, verbal and/or written) as per the business’ Policies and Procedures ensuring documentation of event and corrective action is placed in employee file and that particulars are communicated to Production Supervisors, the Plant Manager and Human Resources
  • Cease production at any time for safety, environment, or quality of product issues

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of all Operations department areas
  • Shares the company’s values of Customer Focus, Meaningful Contribution, Integrity, Continuous Improvement, Innovation, and Teamwork
  • Familiarity with the Employment Standards Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Human Rights Code
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and department-specific software applications (e.g. MPII, ERP, Specview)
  • Great attitude and work ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven reading comprehension skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Conversant with the company’s Policies and Procedures, WHMIS and ISO Procedures

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education preferred but will consider demonstrated and proven historical experience.
