Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Transit Operations, Signals and Communications Office is looking for a Project Coordinator to coordinate the design and construction of upgrades to the existing signaling and train control systems in a safe, timely, consistent and cost-effective manner. The Program includes a variety of large-scale undertakings to improve the overall quality and efficiency of signaling and train control throughout the entire GO Transit rail network.

What will I be doing?
  • Plans, manages and oversees engineering consultant services for the design and execution of infrastructure projects for new construction and upgrades to signaling and communication infrastructure.
  • Ensures compliance with Metrolinx standards and policies, Health & Safety, and industry standards such as Regulated Railway Standards and AREMA for all projects
  • Managing the implementation and monitoring of approved projects through all stages of design, construction, testing and commissioning.
  • Plans, forecasts, monitors and reports capital project expenditures such as consultant fees, purchase orders, delivery contracts and change orders
  • Administers consultant assignments and contracts for the design, construction and expansion of GO Transit Railway Corridors signals and communications infrastructure.
  • Coordinates tender document specifications, contracts and awards for construction and consultant services
  • Researches and participates in the development of engineering standards, procedures and best practices for improved physical infrastructure
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of a 3 or 4 year community college program in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides good knowledge of track and signal railway engineering.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and coordinating contracted engineering projects. Experience in the design and implementation of modern signaling and train control systems is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of conventional Railway Signaling will be considered an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of electrical and civil engineering.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate policies and procedures and applicable contract legislation.
  • Thorough understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal and negotiating skills and analytical ability are a must.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
  • Must have a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License that meet the corporate standard for a good driving record, and must be able to obtain the GO Transit Operators permit.
