SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager of Technical Services; responsible for the coordination of services provided by Geomatics as it pertains to the Capital Program and the needs of other sectional clients.

Implement strategies to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Sets above average standards and leads by example.

GENERAL DUTIES
Distribute and coordinate all Capital Project assignments and ensure projects are being completed in a timely and thorough manner.
Prioritize and schedule geomatics requests, handle all incoming inquiries that require attention and support.
Check, review and monitor project components including project templates, 3d models, geometric alignments, drainage databases, pre-engineering base plans and legal cadastral drawings to ensure projects are completed in accordance with the divisional CAD standards and without mistakes, defects, or inaccuracies.
Complete the pre-engineering component of large and complex projects including projects such as escarpment crossings, subsurface tunneling projects, bridges, structures, arterials, and expressways.
Attend project coordination meetings and organize and lead project team meetings.
Aid in the creation and enforcement of CAD and engineering standards within Engineering Services.
Provide and present innovative solutions and process improvements to the completion of projects within Geomatics.
Provide the Senior Project Manager with metrics and KPI’s on Geomatics projects and client requests.
Research, evaluate, and makes recommendations on new technology as it pertains to geomatics and geospatial requirements.
Provide integration and support for Geomatics technology platforms including ProjectWise, MicroStation, InRoads, Open Roads, Descartes and esri ArcGIS.
Provide guidance and support to current business processes while developing new ideas on enhancing or creating new process workflows.
Create and implement related employee training outlines and workshops. Review and update operational and procedural manuals. Write new procedures as required.

Assist in acquiring mapping data from separate sources including coordination with Utility corporations, Provincial agencies (Teranet, MNR, etc.) and other providers.
Collaborate and create partnerships with clients and other working groups within Engineering Services and/or other Departments and Divisions
Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.

QUALIFICAITONS
1. Demonstrated experience in Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, GIS, and Geomatics with extensive knowledge in drafting and modeling normally acquired by attaining a minimum three (3) year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology/Architectural Technology, Geomatics/GIS Technology, and/or surveying or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Significant experience in different types of survey mapping systems, including control networks, engineering, legal, and aerial mapping.

2. Expert in manipulation and interpretation of survey and mapping digital data and extensive experience in a computerized environment.

3. Must be able to demonstrate relevant experience related to the duties described, gained through considerable work experience.

4. Knowledge of state-of-the-art database, graphics, and engineering systems.

5. Knowledge of project management theories, practices, and trends to manage large contracts and projects, including reviewing, approving, and implementing work plans and project budgets.

6. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.

7. Expert in MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, Descartes and familiar with AutoCAD.

8. Thorough understanding of geomatics data collection processes and remote sensing including orthophotography, GPS and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR).

9. Highly effective leadership, facilitation, communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills.

10. Ability to deal effectively with elected officials, representatives of other levels of government, management, peers, staff, and the general public.

11. Thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes, regulations and by-laws affecting the department/section.

12. Must possess valid Class “G” driver’s license and the use of a vehicle.

NOTE: This is a newly created position. The incumbent(s) or the department has the option to have the salary grade assigned to this position re-evaluated within nine months of the initial filling of this position. The Director of the division must review and submit the submission to Human Resources within 45 days of receiving it. All required forms of the job evaluation submission must be fully completed in order for the review to occur. If fully completed and updated job evaluation forms (with an updated draft job description) are not received within nine months of the initial filling of the position, the existing job description and rating shall be confirmed.


THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS “G” DRIVER’S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.
