JOB SUMMARY

The Library Facilities unit of the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is responsible for facilities planning and capital facilities development to develop and implement appropriate facilities services/supports which respond to changing community needs, including the development of new community branch facilities, the renewal and retrofit of existing facilities, and the coordination of lifecycle projects for the OPL (33 branches, 191 Laurier St. and the Materials Handling Centre); as well as the OPL signage program, promoting a greening approach within facilities, and managing accessibility requirements for the built environment.

You are responsible for ensuring the application of Ottawa Public Library building and design standards to all functional aspects of library facilities’ projects including renovations, retrofits, new buildings and ongoing branch requirements. You coordinate the purchase and installation of public and non-public library furniture and equipment, as well as all major signage projects; undertake the planning and implementation of small facility renovations such as refresh projects for branches under 5,000 sq. ft; and establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external contacts.

Work is performed within the context of the policies and framework of the Library corporate culture as embodied in the Mission Statement, Core Values, Strategic Directions and Strategic Priorities and the Canadian Federation Library Association position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion, with particular emphasis on providing customer service excellence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 2 year college diploma as an Architectural Technician or related field

Minimum of 5 years of progressively increased responsibilities in facilities management, preferably in libraries

  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
