Ripple Foundation seeks a Public Relations Coordinator as a volunteer to help support the PR Lead in our communications efforts. The ideal candidate has the skills to contribute to the development of media relations, influencer engagement and social communications strategy to help build the foundation’s public profile and reputation. It’s a bonus if you already possess existing media contacts and/or relationships and/or familiarity with engaging media and people of influence with respect and polite persistence.

Ripple Foundation is a 100% volunteer-run charitable organization that aims to empower the next generation of leaders by fostering creativity and cultivating a passion for reading and writing in youth across Canada. Current programs include:

● Kids Write 4 Kids – An annual writing contest for youth in grades 4-8. The net proceeds from these book sales are donated to the winner’s charity of choice. Since 2012, 21 young writers have become published authors serving as an inspiration for their peers.

● Write It Workshops – A creative writing program for grades 4-8 that focuses on improving the writing skills of children through fun, interactive activities through which participants are encouraged to find their voice and gain confidence in their choices as a writer.

● Wave Blog – Dedicated to amplifying the voices of young writers through the publication of blogs written by youth in grades 8-12, for youth. Contributors get to share their experiences and thoughts on topics relevant to their peers. This platform strives to increase the public’s awareness of young authors and their voices.

● In 2022 we held our first creative literacy conference for youth, which will become an annual youth-led initiative.

Our Public Relations Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

● Maintaining and expanding media lists and fostering new relationships with key tier 1 and tier 2 media

● Supports with the creation of content in line with the PR strategy and activity calendar (press releases, pitches, media alerts)

● Conducting media outreach and research

● Monitoring media for mentions, logging coverage and sharing all coverage with social media tram

● Flagging media contacts to social media team that have social presence so we may follow them and engage with their social content

● Monitoring and flagging potential coverage or pitching opportunities to the PR Lead

● Supporting the PR Lead with building communications plans and strategies as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

● Strong media and influencer relations skills and established contacts with social influencers and mainstream news media; particularly with education and consumer lifestyle contacts

● Excellent writing and editing skills; providing a sample of your work would be an asset

● Proven success in earned media placements nationally (Canada Wide) and locally

● Demonstrated initiative, creativity and positive attitude; ability to work well as a team

● Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, determine priorities and work to deadlines

● 2+ years of communications experience; current or previous PR agency experience is preferred but not required

Estimated Volunteer Hours: 5 hours per week
