RECREATION PROGRAMMER, OLDER ADULT PROGRAMS

We are looking for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join the Community Services Department at the City of Belleville in the position of an Older Adult Recreation Programmer.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

This position is responsible for the organization of the Corporation’s recreation programs through the creation of new programs, planning, scheduling, program supervision, leading programs as needed, and providing quality customer service to the Recreation Program Staff, volunteers, and patrons under the guidance of the Recreation Program Supervisor with the City of Belleville.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interview, train, schedule, supervise, direct, coordinate, coach, and evaluate recreation program staff and volunteers.
  • Be a resource to staff members and act as a positive role model.
  • Be responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and staff to ensure that policies, rules, and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations, are followed.
  • Research, develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate programs/special events.
  • Resolve problems and/or conflicts with patrons and/or staff.
  • Perform first aid when needed and assist other staff during emergencies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Corporation Programs and have strong public relation skills.
  • Assist with facility set-up and maintain a tidy and clean facility as required.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as data entry, printing class lists, maintaining statistics, completing reports, updating paperwork, etc.
  • Ensure that all forms, documents, records, and all necessary paperwork are filled out for each shift correctly. Update paperwork and recommend necessary changes to documents/paperwork as required.
  • Ensure inventories of recreation supplies and equipment are maintained, ordered, picked-up/delivered and re-stocked as needed.
  • Create new program idea proposals.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the content for promotional materials including the Department’s online activity guide and newsletters.
  • Assist with program budgets.
  • Assist with the Corporation’s Fee Assistance/ Subsidy program and referrals from outside agencies through meeting with clients and agencies, gathering information for their rate reduction approvals.
  • Represent the Department by acting as a liaison between community groups/agencies.

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:

Essential (minimum) Qualifications:

  • A College diploma in Recreation or a related field of study.
  • Minimum Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’.
  • Skill and efficiency in the use of computers and related software.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong organization, communication, and multi-tasking skills.

Asset (Preferred) Qualifications:

  • Current Fitness Certification, and High Five Principles of Healthy Adult Development or willing to obtain.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Essential (minimum) qualifications:

  • One (1) year of recreation experience preferably in a municipal setting.
