Refugee Support Worker - GTA
12 month Contract

JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with settlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, language, social, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of settlement support, counseling, language training, and referral services.

We are currently looking for a Refugee Support Worker to join our team. As part of the PSR team, this position will support newcomer clients by liaising with the settlement team and partner agencies. They will be reaching out to refugee families and CG members to assess their needs and ensure compliance with the PSR program guidelines. This is a one-year, full-time contract position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Reaching out to families sponsored by JIAS, nationally, assessing supports and tracking their settlement progress.
    • Connecting with constituent groups (CG) and partner agencies at a national level, and track supports provided.
    • Developing administrative systems and maintaining files and supporting documentation for PSR audits.
    • Provide timely reports on families’ settlement progress in compliance with the PSR Program Guidelines.
    • Participate in meetings as needed.
    • Develop training materials and educational resources
    • Participate in interagency and partner meetings to represent JIAS and exchange sector information
    • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to support and clarify the role of the settlement team as it relates to the PSR Program
    • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Services or a related area
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with newcomers or other vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport, credibility and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and client record management systems.
  • Commitment to learn about the many institutions, programs and opportunities that are available to Jewish community members of all ages
  • Fluency in Arabic, Tigrinya, Farsi, Dari, or Pashto is required.
