POSITION SUMMARY

West Haldimand General Hospital is located in the beautiful town of Hagersville, and is a scenic half hour drive to Simcoe, Brantford and Hamilton. If working to make a difference for patients’ appeals to you, then we would love to hear from you. We currently have a vacancy for a part-time Registered Nurse in our Perioperative Department.

DUTIES

1. Provides safe care and treatment for Operating Room patients before, during and after surgery.

2. Ensures that a safe environment is maintained for the patient.

3. Adheres to the standards set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada and Hospital Policy.

4. Demonstrates a caring and empathetic approach to patients at all times.

5. Effectively communicates vital information with other members of the health care team.

6. Prepares equipment for surgical procedures and supports surgical procedures.

7. Plans nursing care in accordance with the patient’s needs.

8. Provides health teaching to patients and families to support their recovery at home.

9. Keeps patient information confidential in accordance with legislation.

10. Documents the plan of care and delivery in accordance with CNO practice standards.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. Current Certification of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.

2. Current Perioperative Certificate

3. Recent clinical expertise/experience in Perioperative Clinical Areas (OR, PACU, SDS, Endoscopy (within last two years)

4. Current B.C.L.S. certification

5. Endoscopy suite experience is an asset.

6. Successful completion of recognized Perioperative courses/certification is an asset.

7. RNAO membership is preferred.

8. Demonstrated ability to interact with patients, families and other members of the health care team in an effective, professional, caring manner

9. Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a WHGH Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions

10. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

11. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

12. Past performance and attendance record will be considered as part of the selection process.
