POSITION: Registered Practical Nurse

UNIT: Operating Room

STATUS: Part Time

SALARY: $31.45 - $31.89


The Surgical Suite consists of four (4) operating rooms with one endoscopy suite, performing a wide variety of General, Vascular, Orthopedic, Urology, Bladder, ENT, Ophthalmology, OB/GYN and Maxillofacial surgical procedures.

The RPN provides an environment that supports the readiness of the client for the intended surgery or procedure and functions as a 'scrubbed' nurse member of the surgical team. The RPN is accountable and responsible for the identification of knowledge, skills and techniques necessary for the procedural steps of the surgery, performs count procedures with the circulating nurse, and accounts for all items in the sterile field. The RPN will fulfill the requirements for the reflective practice component by the College of Nurses of Ontario regulatory body.


Hours:

The successful candidate must be available for tours assigned by the hospital including days, evenings, nights, weekends and statutory holidays. Hours may change to fit departmental needs. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to be part of the departmental on-call rotation, meet the non-availability requirements of the Collective Agreement and commit to working a minimum of one (1) shift per month.


Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • Registered Practical Nurse currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Operating Room Nurse Certificate from a recognized program or equivalent.
  • One (1) year operating room experience within the last two (2) years preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative patient care
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing/continuous professional development,
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft, Work, Excel and Outlook)
  • Effective organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively, independently, and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with many interruptions and changing demands
  • Excellent attendance record and punctuality

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work.
