Applications are invited for the position of Research Program Manager, Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (WAMIC), located at our Welland Campus, in the Division of Research and Innovation.

Reporting to the Director, Research and Innovation, the Research Program Manager will be responsible for managing a wide range of applied research projects and related activities. The Research Program Manager will manage outreach activities with business and industry, liaise with funders and form and manage applied research project teams that include faculty, staff, students, and industry partners. The Research Program Manager is responsible for identifying and responding to research opportunities, developing concepts, generating funding proposals, preparing and managing documents and reports, managing financial and human resources for research projects, as well as coordinating dissemination and outreach activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing current research projects, which includes identifying and in some cases hiring the research team, liaising with external partners, maintaining quality assurance and finances of projects, and reporting as required to funding organizations and/or clients/partners
  • Developing new research projects, including responding to industry requests and developing proposal concepts
  • Liaising with faculty and staff regarding potential research opportunities
  • Preparing and managing budgets for projects, ensuring completion within approved budget
  • Hiring, supervising and evaluating all staff hired for research projects, many of which are multiple-year projects
  • Developing and assisting with project dissemination activities, including but not limited to, special events, conferences, print and web materials
  • Preparing and delivering outreach strategies for promoting Niagara College Research to industry, educational institutions and other organizations

Qualifications:

  • At minimum a three (3) year diploma/degree with preference to specialization in Engineering and/or Business Administration.
  • Five (5) years of project management experience that includes significant industry liaison experience
  • Experience in managing complex projects with responsibility for financial and human resource management
  • Demonstrated effective management, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
  • Sound problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability
  • Good judgement and strong analytical skill

Assets include:

  • Experience in managing a team
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal applied research funding programs for colleges, including those specifically related to Technology
  • Work experience in a post-secondary institution
  • Understanding of the manufacturing landscape in the Niagara Region and beyond
  • Relationships developed, and knowledge of advanced manufacturing networks within the Niagara Region, Ontario and Canada
  • Progressive background in: engineering, manufacturing and/or business administration
