Road Infrastructure Inspector Job at Strathcona County

This posting is for 1 seasonal full-time position up to 7 months (April to October) with the possibility of extension.

The Infrastructure Inspector is responsible for the inspection of all Transportation Infrastructure in accordance with approved policy and standards including specific infrastructure inspections, following up on inquiries related to hazards existing with the transportation infrastructure and performing daily inspections. All roads/trails are inspected once per month in the winter and biweekly in the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect above ground transportation infrastructure and right-of-way’s for current conditions and liability hazards
  • Complete daily/weekly inspection reports including formal monthly inspection summary reports in compliance with approved Infrastructure Inspection Manual
  • Provide detailed infrastructure reports to Operations Planning team to ensure desired infrastructure quality is met through planned projects
  • Inspect routine maintenance activities to ensure work is effective and efficient
  • Provide updates and quality reports to Senior Infrastructure Technologist – Inspections for formal quality assurance review
  • Provide Operations planning team with current infrastructure data to support updates to operational project plans
  • Collect information data for consultants, contractors, public and other departments related to municipal transportation right-of-way
  • Communicate with landowners to address resident concerns by investigating and inspecting

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills within established methodologies and specifications
  • Ability to compare past inspections with current conditions and advise of infrastructure deterioration of all transportation assets
  • Ability to be alert when working in a traffic environment, on construction sites and roadways
  • A high level of attention to detail is required for updating databases and conducting analysis of data
  • Knowledge of transportation infrastructure and construction standards
    Knowledge in road construction and temporary traffic control
  • Need to be an independently motivated individual

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary technical training/certificate with 4 years related experience in road maintenance preferred
  • Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered (10+ years of extensive field experience in road maintenance and/or road construction)
  • Active certificate/membership with AB Temporary Traffic Control course (AB Construction Safety Association) or equivalent is considered an asset
  • Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologist (ASET) will be considered an asset

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk/drive for extended periods of time
