Safety Navigator, Glooscap Health and Safety

12 Month Term Contract, possibility of extension – Based in Yarmouth, NS.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Planner, the Safety Navigator will deliver the Glooscap Health & Safety management system both internally and to external client organizations. Full training will be provided to the successful applicant. This position will be based in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, remote/hybrid working maybe considered.

The career opportunity:

  • Develop and implement, in consultation with the Health and Safety Planner, health and safety programs, including standard procedures, policies and training to mitigate risk, optimize worker’s health and safety and foster a positive occupational health and safety culture
  • Carry out workplace audits and investigations of safety concerns, incidents and accidents both internally within Glooscap and externally with Glooscap Safety clients
  • Carry out workplace safety inspections both in the field and at worksites to ensure that equipment, materials and processes do not present a safety hazard to employees
  • Generate incident reports
  • Conduct general incident investigations (Near Miss - Moderate)
  • Deliver safety toolbox talks, and provide information and training as needed
  • Promote compliance with the Glooscap Safety management System (Spirit of the Wolf)
  • Act as a voice for safety within the Glooscap community and our client communities

The package:

  • 12 Month Term Contract with the possibility of extension dependent on funding
  • $35,000 - $40,000 annual salary
  • Full-time 37.5 hours per week – Monday to Thursday – 8.30 am – 4 pm
  • Paid vacation
  • Based in Yarmouth NS or hybrid/remote role considered

The requirements:

  • Ambition to learn and Strong communicator
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Resourceful, dependable and a real commitment to safety
  • Able to take initiatives and work with minimal supervision once trained
  • High School Diploma
  • Previous Health and Safety training/experience an asset.
