This position may be based at any of our offices (St-Catharines, Cornwall, Brossard and St -Lambert) in order to meet with your clients. Also, Safety Services team members serve an English-speaking and French-speaking clientele so the person chosen will preferably be bilingual.
The SLSMC safety team is enacting positive change and enhancing our safety culture. Looking for an experienced safety professional who embraces continual improvement and realizing strategic goals, with a strong background in enhancing safety in a federally-regulated workplace.

Role

The Safety Officer oversees the planning, design, implementation, administration, execution and follow-up of the corporate accident prevention program, safe work procedures, safety activities and training programs, and advises management teams on safety issues, in support of a safe and accident-free workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the safety program, special projects and campaigns in accordance with SLSMC polices, relevant legislation, and other applicable rules and regulations.
  • Participate in and play an advisory role in joint safety committees, and work collaboratively with all levels of management to build a strong safety culture.
  • Collaboratively develop/update safety procedures in accordance with legislative amendments and ensure their application on a corporate/regional level.
  • Analyze and review maintenance, safety inspection and accident investigation forms, and make recommendations to line management for improvement as needed.
  • Take part in workplace inspections and the investigation of accidents/incidents and near-misses, identify necessary corrective measures and follow up on recommendations.
  • Design, plan and deliver working tools, programs, training programs and information sessions on prevention.

Experience and knowledge

  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in occupational health and safety in a unionized, industrial environment.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable federal and provincial laws and regulations, and relevant SLSMC procedures, rules and standards.
  • Sound knowledge of safety standards applicable to an industrial environment, such as WHMIS, lockout procedures and risk assessments.

Education

  • University degree or College diploma in Health and Safety or related field

Certifications

  • Valid Class G (ON) or Class 5 (QC) driver's license and insurable driving record
Salary range: EX: $ 97 000$ - 108 000$
