Vancouver Shipyards, based in North Vancouver, has a very busy and exciting year ahead, as we continue to make progress on two 174m long Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy – the largest ships ever built in Canada! We are also constructing an Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) for the Canadian Coast Guard; and have secured significant contracts to design and build a Polar Icebreaker and several Multi-Purpose Vessels. These projects will bring long-term job stability for many years to come.

Duties/Accountabilities

  • Inspect your work for safety issues
  • Read blueprints for scaffold projects
  • Unloading scaffolding equipment on-site
  • Ensuring a stable base for scaffolding
  • Erecting scaffolding poles
  • Dismantling scaffolding when a project is complete
  • Creating different kinds of platforms, from simple scaffolding through to complex structures

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with erecting and dismantling scaffolding in a construction environment
  • Valid fall protection training
  • Experience with operating boom lifts and scissor lifts

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of scaffolding parts, components, and use
  • Demonstrated passion for safety and environmental stewardship
  • Ability to work positively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, and drawings
  • Must be able to work in a construction environment involving, working at heights, physical labour, and various weather conditions
  • Must be flexible and able to work all shifts

These are Union roles with Marine & Shipbuilders - Local 506 and offers an excellent health, welfare & pension package after the completion of 480 hours. The pay rate range is $44.37 to $47.42 p/hr (overtime is double time). The payment structure is as follows:

  • Stager (1st – 6 months): $44.37 p/hour
  • Stager* (thereafter): $45.21 p/hour
    • Stagers will receive the Journeyperson rate: $47.42 if the individual possesses a related trades qualification and a minimum of 1850 hours (1 year) scaffolding/staging; or, 3700 hours (2 years) of scaffolding experience and completion of a recognized staging/scaffolding training.
