The Policing and Community Safety Services Division of the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety has a challenging career opportunity for experienced, mature, motivated, responsible, team-orientated individuals in Saskatoon with the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Investigation Unit. As an Investigator/Inspector, the incumbent's primary role will be to conduct investigations and enforcement under the authority of The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act.

As an Investigator/Inspector, you will conduct plain clothes/undercover investigations and enforcement activities in high-crime neighbourhoods and communities targeting private and commercial properties being habitually used for illegal activities such as, but not limited to, the illegal growth, sale, consumption of a controlled substance; child sexual abuse; sex trade activities; organized crime and gang-related operations; the illegal sale of intoxicants; and the illegal sale, use, transfer, exchange of beverage alcohol are being conducted.

The successful candidate will be required to be authorized to carry firearms and be able to pass the Provincial Firearm, O.C. Spray, and extendable baton qualification standards as outlined by the Saskatchewan Police College. You will need to maintain this qualification throughout your employment with the SCAN program. Additionally, you may be required to undergo medical and physical testing (in order to demonstrate overall health and fitness) and will be required to undergo psychological testing, criminal record check, background checks, qualify for a heightened level of security clearance, possess a valid driver's licence, successfully complete a period of position-specific training including Use of Force and Risk Management, and work varied shifts with extended hours that include northern travel.

The incumbent will be appointed as a Special Constable pursuant to The Police Act, 1990.

The knowledge required for this position would typically be gained by the successful completion of training in a police academy/college supplemented by extensive policing and/or law enforcement experience conducting investigations and intelligence gathering in areas of drug enforcement, vice investigations, organized crime/gangs and associated major crimes including conducting static and mobile surveillance and the ability to complete informations and affidavits providing the courts with opinion/evidence based on this experience to obtain court orders. Northern and isolated community police experience is an asset. Current and former members of a police agency are encouraged to apply.
