As part of the Campus Safety & Parking team the Security Representative works to provide a safe and secure environment that supports the academic activity. The incumbent conducts investigations and documents the details of such investigations and occurrences and is involved in various security functions. In addition, the incumbent is expected to participate in crime prevention and victim assistance initiatives and respond to client inquiries across the campuses and college locations. This position requires shift work and availability for occasional call out.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department working on campus 5 days a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigates and report documentation of alleged incidents based on College policies and procedures
  • Conducts interviews to determine circumstances, following up as required
  • Completes accurate reports related to incidents for submission to supervisor
  • Reviews reports as required with various college representatives (i.e. supervisor, Vice-President of Student Affairs) for clarification
  • Represents the College in disputes related to incident investigation as required
  • completing monthly reports; uses current software and technology
  • Responds to all Emergency Response situations and assume Incident Command position at respective campuses
  • Acts as a main point of contact for Security for campuses as assigned to meet operational needs
  • Inspects various areas where more valuable assets are located, writing reports on recommendations according to security standards for review by Supervisor/ Manager.
  • Complete safety plans as required; Responds to alarms
  • Completes lost and found donations, disposals, and related documentation
  • assist with weekly auditing of Security equipment
  • Completes Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) audits as directed
  • Installs key cores to doors as instructed by Supervisor/Manager
  • Assesses and diagnoses lock sets not working properly and repair or replace cores as necessary
  • Completes work requests to have door hardware changed out when required
  • Cuts keys as required to replenish key inventory as requested by Supervisor/Manager
  • Audits access control doors on a regular basis and change batteries when required to warrant the functionality of card readers
  • Clarifies and reviews various situations that may arise, consulting with standing orders, or supervisor as necessary
  • Arranges annual bike patrol training audit equipment and uniforms
  • Drafts communication for posting online and review social media accounts
  • Develops and delivers crime prevention and security programs


Qualifications:

  • Two-year college diploma or greater University Degree in Security Studies, Investigations, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or a related field
  • Minimum two years experience as a security operative including demonstrated experience with incident investigations and critical decision-making in emergency situations
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate required
  • Dual Licences Security Guard/Private Investigator Licence required
  • One of the following is considered an asset:
    • Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
    • Professional Certified Investigator (PCI)
    • Physical Security Professional (PSP)
    • Certified Protection Officer (CPO)
    • Security Supervision and Management (CSSM)
    • Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA)
    • Counter Terrorism Information Officer (CTIO)
    • Associate Protection Professional (APP)
    • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
  • De-escalation/conflict resolution training, ASSIST Training, Mental Health, First Aid Training, Diversity and Inclusion Training, Threat Assessment Training is considered an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of court processes, witness management, evidence preparation and a proven ability to liaise with enforcement and legal agencies
  • Experience with social media monitoring and open source intelligence research and tools.
  • Competency with incident management databases and report generation and Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to correctly assess, evaluate and act on situations using sound judgement
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills (ability to effectively communicate)
  • Good facilitation/mediation skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Preference given to individuals with current First Responder (AED) and WHMIS training
  • Must possess experience with high-level report writing
  • Must possess Class G Ontario Driver’s Licence
