Purpose:
To use an intervention capable security model to provide security services to the York University community. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting patrols, property watch and access control activities to assigned areas of the campus. As directed and in concert with other security services classifications, supports and assists Security Operations in responding to calls for service.

Education:
High School Diploma, with some Community College experience preferred. Must possess a valid Ontario Security Guard License, Valid Class G Ontario Driver's license, and a current valid First Aid and CPR Certificates.

Experience:
Two years of experience in a security field preferred. Experience and training in the Ontario Use of Force Model including certification in the use of expandable batons and handcuffs is preferred.

Skills:
Essential:, must possess a sensitivity and commitment to the needs and concerns of a multi-cultural community. demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to gender, gender identity and sexual orientation issues,. basic word-processing. familiarity with email and demonstrated working knowledge of computers and software in general. good communication skills, including oral, written and listening. skill/ability in the following areas: basic crime prevention methods. good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal calmly and effectively with people including tact and diplomacy. ability to work as a pro-active team member. ability to take direction. ability and willingness to undertake and participate in various departmental training initiatives and exercises. demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment. understanding of community-based service delivery in a university environment preferred. Preferred: An Ontario Defensive Driving Certificate is an asset. familiarization with federal, provincial, and municipal laws applicable in a university environment. Additional Notes:
Notes: Excessive physical demands involved in this position: Assignments include walking on campus for up to 12-hour Night shifts (7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) with a rotating schedule over a two (2) weeks period, or as scheduled based, on operating requirements, 24/7. Must be able to work in all weather conditions.Peak periods occur throughout the year and are dependent upon the scheduling of special events or student functions (i.e. registration fair, orientation week, convocation, etc.) and the overall university academic year. Definable peak periods include: September, October, January, February and MarchPositions designated as bilingual require written and oral fluency in the French and English languages. Language proficiency tests will be administered.
