Position Title: Senior Financial Analyst - IT PMO

Team and Location: IT – Calgary, AB

Starting Minimum Salary from: $ 99,800 /year

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, PMO within IT this position is responsible for Parkland’s IT Portfolio of Capital and management of Operating Expenses.

This position coordinates the annual strategic planning/ budgeting for all capital and operating spend across IT. Performs monthly actual vs. budget and year-over-year variance analysis, and works closely with the IT BU (Business Unit) owners to ensure accuracy of all actual periods’ accounting transactions and reasonability of variance analysis, including forecasting. On a quarterly basis, this position prepares a consolidated IT MG&A cost analysis and IT CAPEX spending by analyzing actuals vs. budget and year-over-year which is part of quarterly Corporate Board update package.

This position also reviews all submitted business cases as part of the AFE approval and review process challenging cost and value realization assumptions, supports the monitoring of spend against the IT Capital Portfolio and coordinates the lookbacks for value realized.

In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring the accounting treatment is applied across all IT Capital spend for Parkland, and contributes to process improvement within the PMO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs Monthly Stewardship Reporting for Senior Level Leaders across capital and MG&A including analysis, trending and comparison to budget within IT and across divisional leadership
  • Coordinates the IT annual strategic capital and MG&A planning and budgeting process.
  • Performs AFE Business Case Reviews for financial accuracy challenging benefits and cost assumptions across all IT Capital Spend
  • Performs Lookbacks ensuring benefits and value realization
  • Liaison between Finance and IT supporting leaders and project managers throughout the project lifecycle in terms of policy and technical accounting guidance. Monitors the appropriateness of capitalization for all project costs across resources, cloud, labour rates, etc per accounting policy and treatment.
  • Perform Ad hoc information, investigation, analysis and reporting requests
  • Actively analyze, identify, propose, implement and coordinate areas of improvement to PMO processes to support financial accuracy in reporting. Actively determine gaps and root causes of issues, and develop gap resolutions.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Designated accountant (CPA) with 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of IFRS
  • Experience in various Enterprise Performance Management system
  • Strong critical and analytical skills to validate and challenge information by various sources
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and resilient in execution and finding information
  • Curious mindset
  • Strong project management and team skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong skills related to execution and implementation of process changes
  • High degree of attention to detail and organization
  • Driven and the ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment and work well under pressure
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint
  • Previous experience in oil and gas industry, retail, manufacturing, or other intensive industry would be considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating an ability to make complex issues and processes clear and understandable to key stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Strong team player with ability to partner and work within IT across all leadership levels
  • Ability to act as a SME for program and project managers on all accounting related issues
