Please see this exciting opportunity to join the North Zone Environmental Public Health team. The Public Health Inspector II (PHI II) position is based out of the Fort McMurray Office and the focus of the role will include but not be limited to: Undertaking complex work linked to priority program initiatives; Conducting field public health inspection work in an assigned North Zone district; Providing technical knowledge, professional practice advice, mentorship, and leadership to support the development and achievement of the program’s goals, strategic objectives, and standards; The successful candidate will also participate in Zone and Provincial committees (both internal and external) related to many aspects of the role. The PHI II may also provide support to SHE provincially. Some flexibility is required to change assignments due to workload demands. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Please note this position qualifies for incentives under the Rural Capacity Investment Fund. The hiring manager may offer the successful applicant one of three different incentive packages: One year return of service for $5000. Two year return of service for $12,000 or Three year return of service for $25,000. The successful applicant must sign a return of service agreement to be eligible for an incentive package.

Description:

As a Public Health Inspector II and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental public health program. As a Public Health Inspector II, you will have advanced technical expertise in the areas of public health epidemiology, environmental science and engineering, and scientific research. In addition to the duties required for the enforcement of the Public Health Act, you will act as a zone lead responsible for specialized technical advice and services in one or more of the environmental public health service delivery areas on a zone/provincial basis. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an Environmental Public Health Program with a Bachelor’s Degree or 3 years’ working experience with a related Master's Degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working as part of a zone and/or provincial committee. Demonstrated proficiency with the implementation of zone initiatives. Experience in working with remote, rural, and indigenous communities is an asset.
