Novarc Technologies is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, reporting to the Director of Mechanical Engineering and part of the Hardware Engineering team, you will provide support for the mechanical system of the SWR and future products, ensuring they are designed to the highest standard of quality.

The successful candidate must be able to attend an interview in person and will work out of the North Vancouver, BC office; Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Detailed design and development of mechanical parts and systems for robotic applications and welding equipment (drive systems, pneumatics, weldments, sheet metal)
  • Use SolidWorks to create designs and manage parts/assemblies
  • Prepare detailed part and assembly drawings as per ASME Y14.5-2018
  • Lead multidisciplinary team for development of new designs from concept to production
  • Provide input into development of engineering processes including and not limited to PDM/PLM systems, change control, lifecycle management
  • Assisting customer service, installation and welding teams with troubleshooting machine issues
  • Provide complete and accurate documentation including bills of materials, engineering change orders, test validation reports, root cause analyses, FMEA, machine manuals and installation documentation
  • Travel as required to customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and training duties
  • Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional automation system
  • Advise customer on solving technical problems
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures

Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent of combined experience)
  • 10+ years of machine design experience
  • 5+ years of engineering drawing experience using ASME Y14.5 standard
  • High level of experience in product development and planning
  • In depth experience with PLM and/or PDM software platforms
  • Experience in hands-on mechanical assembly of components (fabrication, welding, pneumatics, wiring)
  • 8+ years of drafting using SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Proven record of managing small interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience with mentoring junior staff
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with CM/DM and BOM architecture design for manufacturing
  • Registered as P. Eng.
  • Welding experience (GMAW, GTAW)
  • Lean manufacturing experience
  • Experience with electrical systems and wiring, control systems
  • Field experience in commissioning and installation of machinery

Schedule: This is a permanent full time position. Our office is in North Vancouver. We offer a hybrid work environment but candidates must be willing and able to commute to the office several times a week.
