Reporting to the Senior Engineer Supervisor, Mining, the Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for working with a diverse team to support life of asset optimization and plan of approach. This role will contribute to increasing the environmental, social, and cultural value of our projects through landscape design while supporting our Nature Positive goals and the development of our decarbonization strategy.


In this role, you will collaborate with different departments and specialists dedicated to sustainable mining in the Elk Valley region of B.C, focusing on mine planning and design. You'll enjoy a wide range of duties that will allow you to apply and develop your broad abilities.

The position is located on-site and the ability to reliably commute/relocate near Sparwood and Elkford, B.C is necessary. We support successful candidates during their transition to find accommodation.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Facilitate a wide range of mine planning and design activities, including pit and landform design, production scheduling, and optimization
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies and software for their competitive advantage and decarbonization results
  • Improve projects' economic, environmental, cultural, and social value by applying the sustainability lens to design
  • Proactively integrate water quality objectives, treatments, and best practices into mine plans
  • Influence site decision making by communicating detailed data analysis and sound mining practices
  • Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and peer reviews
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship to junior members of the team



Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum seven years of mine planning and operations experience in open pit, truck, and shovel operations
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Strong digital proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Experience with Hexagon Minesight, XPAC Solutions and Comet mine planning systems is an asset
